Awned; Released from Oregon AES in 1977. Stephens is one of a few remaining public varieties. Under irrigation yield and test weight are lower than newer varieties. Protein levels and heading date are average. Stephens is moderately susceptible to dwarf bunt and does not have good resistance to barley yellow dwarf virus, snow mold or stripe rust.
Awned; Released by Syngenta in 2011, Ovation has been a favorite for the majority of our growers over the past several years. It threshes well and delivers good quality to the mills. It is consistently toward the top of the charts on yield, however test weight can be average or slightly lower. At 37 inches it has an average height and also an average heading date. Seems to do better planted earlier in the season. Ovation is resistant to soil borne mosaic virus, susceptible to current races of stripe rust as well as dwarf bunt. Certified Seed Only Variety
Awnless; Relesed in by WestBred, WB 1621 has a dual-purpose forage and grain use, it is a medium-late maruring variety and has excellent standability, test weight, and grain/forage yield potential, with good tolerance to Yello
Awned; Released in 2014 by WestBred, WB 1529 has consistently been an average or better yield producer with a test weight that pushes the top of the charts. This is one of our more popular varieties with good end use quality. At 37” it has an average height as well as an average heading date. Our growers use WB 1529 because they know what to expect and they know they can depend on it. Does well planted early or late. It is resistant to current races of stripe rust as well as dwarf bunt. Awned; Released in 1990 by Utah AES, Promontory is intended for dryland production but can also be grown in irrigated scenarios. At 29 inches tall Promontory is slightly taller than average in dryland. It has slightly higher than average yield and excellent test weight. Promontory has an earlier than average heading date and lower than average protein. Promontory is resistant to dwarf bunt and moderately susceptible to stripe rust.
Awned; Released in 1997 by the Utah AES, Utah-100 can be grown in both dryland or irrigated production but is intended for dryland situations. In dryland, Utah-100 has a slightly higher than average protein content with an average yield and lower than average test weight. At 31 inches it is taller than average. Utah-100 is very resistant to dwarf bunt and is susceptible to current races of stripe rust.
Awned; Released by Syngenta in 2014, Clearstone is a 2 gene Clearfield variety that has resistance to Imazamox herbicide for grass type weeds including rye, jointed goat grass and wild oats as well as a number of broadleaf weeds. Clearstone has average yields under dryland with average test weight, heading date and height. It did have lower than average protein but the flour mills have been pleased with it’s end use quality. Clearstone may have some lodging risk under irrigation and is moderately resistant to dwarf bunt and strip rust. Certified Seed Only Variety
Awned, hulled; Released in 2017 by Utah AES, UT-10201 is a feed barley that has had consistently higher than average yields, earlier heading date, average height in irrigated trials. As with most six row barley, it can have a lower test weight. This variety has shown very good winter survival. In higher than average production situations with sprinkler irrigation a small percentage can lodge.
Hooded, hulled; Released by OR in 1994, intended as a hay type barley due to its hooded characteristic. Broadly adapted for multiple regions. Medium height, average lodging resistance and grain yield.
